How we got started !
Pastor Freddy Garcia often said, “If you can reach the children—if you can give them education and Jesus—you can change a community.” Those words became more than just a vision; they became a lifeline of hope in Nuevo Progreso. Over the years, Me + Mexico has witnessed miracle after miracle as lives were transformed through simple acts of love and faithfulness.
Pastor Tessy Miller took Pastor Freddy’s wisdom to heart and launched an education sponsorship program, designed to give children more than just a chance at school—but a future filled with possibilities. In Nuevo Progreso, education is not guaranteed. Many children are placed in school only long enough to learn to read and write before being pulled out to care for siblings or help earn money for the family. Dreams are often cut short before they even begin.
In 2020, when the world shut down, Me + Mexico planted the Garcia Education Center on the Mexico campus to give students a safe and free space to complete homework, access Wi-Fi, and keep learning during COVID. What began as a response to crisis has now grown into a thriving hub filled with inspiration and dreams. Today, the center not only provides children with a place to study but also equips teachers with valuable resources like printers and binder creators—tools that remove barriers and make education more accessible.
Through sponsorship, that vision of hope continues. Each year, The Family Church rallies to provide sponsorships for children to attend school for an entire year. For $1,000, one child receives the opportunity to remain in school, pursue an education, and hear the message of Jesus in the process. But this is more than financial support—it’s the start of a relationship. Sponsors receive letters, updates, and pictures from their student throughout the year, allowing them to share in their growth, their joys, and their journey.
When you choose to sponsor a child, you’re doing more than funding an education. You’re telling a child, “You are worth it. Your future matters.” And in doing so, you leave behind more than a gift—you leave a legacy.
